A shooting incident in Midland, Texas, left one individual dead and nine others wounded on Thursday evening. The suspect, an adult male, opened fire at a residence and later barricaded himself inside a nearby building, according to local law enforcement.
Police responded to reports of gunfire around 6:30 p.m. local time. Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple victims at the scene. Emergency medical services transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. The conditions of the wounded varied, with some reported to be in critical condition.
The alleged shooter then retreated into a structure and refused to exit. A standoff ensued as authorities established a perimeter around the building. After negotiations, the suspect was eventually taken into custody without further violence. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.
Midland Police, with assistance from other agencies, managed the scene and secured the area. The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were also involved in the response.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the suspect or the victims. Investigators are working to determine whether the shooter knew the victims and what circumstances led to the deadly confrontation.
