A 50-year-old woman lost her life after armed assailants riddled a parked car with bullets at a fueling station near Hammond, Louisiana. Patricia S. had been waiting inside the vehicle while the driver went into the store.

The attackers, whose faces were covered, arrived in a white Honda Civic that had been taken without permission from Mississippi days before. They positioned their vehicle next to the target car and unleashed a barrage of approximately 80 shots.

Law enforcement officials, led by Police Chief Edwin Bergeron Jr., revealed that the gunmen had earlier spotted the vehicle on rural property in Hammond. They tailed it to the fueling station, waiting for the driver to enter the shop before striking.

Patricia S. had only entered the car because she needed transportation. The person the shooters were apparently looking for had exited the vehicle earlier and departed with someone else. Chief Bergeron emphasized during a media briefing: "She was an absolutely innocent victim. She had nothing to do with this."

Investigators estimate between two and three perpetrators participated in the deadly assault. Security footage from the fueling station captured the entire violent encounter.

A vigorous search for the suspects is underway. Chief Bergeron vowed his department would pursue the case relentlessly until those responsible are behind bars. No details about the motive have been disclosed publicly.
