The sequence of events began at around 1:30 a.m., when Simi Valley Police Department officers responded to a domestic violence call in the 2000 block of Clover Street. On arrival, officers found a husband and wife both bearing apparent stab wounds. The husband, identified only as a 46-year-old Simi Valley resident, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and transported to Los Robles, where he was held in police custody. His wife was taken to a separate local hospital.
At approximately 12:20 p.m. — roughly ten hours later — the Ventura County Sheriff's Office was called to Los Robles following a shooting on the fourth floor of a medical centre building. An on-duty Simi Valley officer had been guarding the suspect when they noticed the man required medical attention and alerted staff. During the subsequent medical assessment, the officer discharged their weapon, striking the man. Authorities did not provide further details about what specifically prompted the officer to fire.
The man was treated at the scene by medical staff and was reported to be in stable condition as of Thursday afternoon, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said. No hospital staff, visitors or other patients were injured.
The sheriff's office described the incident as isolated and stated there is no broader threat to the public. The VCSO's Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, given that it occurred within the office's jurisdiction.
