A 39-year-old individual was apprehended following a violent domestic confrontation that ended with him refusing to exit a Vermont property for approximately an hour and a half.

The episode began around 6 p.m. on Wednesday in Middlebury, WCAX reported.

Joshua Puma stands accused of dousing an adult male relative with chemical irritant before inflicting stab wounds. During the struggle, the injured party fired a handgun aimed at Puma.

Both the wounded individual and another household member succeeded in fleeing the building. Puma stayed inside while law enforcement worked to secure his peaceful exit.

Emergency responders transported the injured relative to Porter Hospital. Medical staff have not released details about the severity of his wounds.

Puma is presently under federal supervision for an earlier conviction. He ultimately complied with officers and was placed under arrest.
