A motorist from Schenectady faces felony narcotics charges after troopers discovered roughly three hundred pounds of cannabis in his automobile during a routine traffic stop on a major New York highway.

Tyler Thompson, forty-one, was pulled over on Interstate 87 Northway in Malta on June 17 at approximately 10:53 a.m. for a traffic infraction, according to the New York State Police. During the stop, a police canine identified the presence of contraband.

Troopers searched the vehicle and located approximately three hundred pounds of cannabis inside. Thompson was taken into custody on a first-degree criminal possession of cannabis charge, a class D felony, along with additional traffic violations.

The arrest was carried out by troopers from the Trooper G Community Stabilization Unit, working alongside United States Border Patrol agents.

Thompson was transported to the Saratoga State Police barracks for booking. He was later arraigned at Malta Town Court and released without bail.
