Armed Home Invasion in Georgetown: 83-Year-Old Woman Locks Herself in Bedroom

An armed man forced his way into a Georgetown home Friday, pointing a gun at an elderly woman. Delaware State Police are seeking witnesses and information.

Delaware State Police, as reported by dsp.delaware.gov, are investigating a home invasion that took place Friday morning at a residence on the 24000 block of Lawson Road in Georgetown.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on May 15, 2026, troopers were dispatched to the address after a home security vendor reported a panic alarm activation. Upon arrival, officers determined that an 83-year-old woman had triggered the alarm after an unknown male suspect pushed his way through her front door as she opened it.

Once inside the home, the suspect produced a handgun and directed it at the victim, demanding to know the whereabouts of another individual he believed to be on the premises. The woman managed to retreat to a bedroom, lock the door, and activate her panic alarm while the intruder searched through the residence. The suspect subsequently left in an unknown direction. The victim was not physically injured.

Investigators describe the suspect as a white male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. He may have been driving a black pickup truck.
