Law enforcement in Delaware is looking into a wave of after-hours intrusions that affected numerous storefronts along a major corridor in Lewes over the weekend.

Troopers were dispatched shortly after dawn on May 30 to a shopping complex at 18388 Coastal Highway. Four venues there — a British-themed eatery, a restaurant, a Hispanic grocery, and a record shop — showed signs of forced entry or attempted forced entry. In most instances, the culprits made off with cash.

As the inquiry widened, authorities linked three more establishments to the same pattern: a sports bar and grill, a café, and a seafood restaurant, all located within the same stretch.

Evidence gathered so far suggests a pair of unidentified perpetrators operated in the predawn darkness, moving from one target to the next.
