A gun attack involving relatives at a property in North Carolina claimed three lives and left another person injured on Wednesday, according to local officials. The suspected shooter is among the deceased.

Authorities received a report of gunfire shortly before 8 a.m. local time. The incident occurred on a property along Brooks Road in Prospect Hill, roughly 70 kilometres northwest of Raleigh. Responding officers discovered several people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden stated that all four individuals were adult members of the same family. Three bodies were found outside the residence. The surviving victim, who was also present at the scene, called emergency services and was transported to Duke University Hospital. That person’s current condition has not been disclosed.

Durden confirmed that the alleged shooter is among the dead, though the exact circumstances of that individual’s death remain unclear. Officials have not yet stated whether the suspected perpetrator died by suicide or was shot by someone else. Unofficial reports suggest the wounded relative who dialled 911 may have fired the fatal shot at the suspect.

Law enforcement has not released the identities of the victims. A motive for the violence has also not been announced.
