Two armed assailants carjacked a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, early Monday morning, later torching the vehicle in a nearby residential area.

The incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. along Highway PR-866 at the intersection with Highway PR-22 in the Candelaria Arena neighborhood. The driver, a man traveling alone in his gray 2018 Toyota Tacoma, told police that another vehicle struck him from behind.

When he exited the truck to inspect the damage, two individuals carrying weapons confronted him. Using threats and intimidation, the pair seized the vehicle and fled.

Authorities later located the stolen pickup burned out on Lago de Plata Avenue at the intersection with Street 6 in Levittown, also within Toa Baja. Investigators are probing whether the hijackers used the truck to commit additional offenses before destroying it.

The driver escaped physical injury during the robbery.

The case has been referred to the Robbery Division of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) in Bayamón.
