Fatal shooting at Hollis sports bar: NYPD names suspect in South Jamaica man's death

Homicide detectives from the 103rd Precinct have named Paublo Torres, 21, as the suspect in the fatal shooting of Denis Nunez, 34, of South Jamaica, outside the El Catracho Sports Bar at 184-15 Jamaica Avenue in the early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 21, qns.com reports.

According to a law enforcement source, Torres allegedly opened fire inside the sports bar at approximately 1:45 a.m. following a brawl that police described as stemming from a domestic violence dispute. Nunez had been drinking with his brother when the altercation broke out and had stepped outside onto Jamaica Avenue when Torres allegedly discharged his weapon from inside the establishment. Nunez was struck twice — once in the stomach and once in the left shoulder.

Officers from the 103rd Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting an assault in progress and found Nunez with the two gunshot wounds. EMS transported him to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

No arrests have been made and the homicide investigation remains ongoing. The NYPD released a mug shot of Torres from a prior arrest in connection with the case.

Detectives are asking the public for assistance. A reward of up to $3,500 is being offered for information leading to Torres's arrest and indictment. According to the NYPD's most recent CompStat report, the Nunez homicide was the first murder recorded by the 103rd Precinct through March 8 — a figure that mirrors the single homicide reported at the same point last year.
