A law enforcement officer in Houston discharged their weapon and struck a suspect on Monday evening while probing a reported stolen automobile. The event unfolded shortly after 8 p.m. along Westheimer Road in the Highland Village neighborhood.

Department officials explained that a patrol officer checked the registration of a dark-colored sedan and learned it matched a vehicle reported stolen in Fort Bend County. Officers then issued repeated instructions for the motorist to step out of the car.

The individual inside the vehicle declined to obey these commands for roughly half an hour. Investigators stated that the suspect subsequently moved in a manner that caused officers to suspect the person was going for a weapon. At that point, one officer fired several rounds, hitting the individual.

Medical authorities indicated the wounded person is likely to recover. None of the officers present suffered harm.

People in the vicinity told local media they heard multiple gunshots during the confrontation. Authorities have not released the names of the officers who took part.

The municipal police force's internal review body and its specialized inquiries unit are both examining the shooting, following standard protocol for any incident in which an officer fires their weapon.
