Pennsylvania Man Charged in Triple Shooting After Telling Officers He Killed 'Everyone I Love'
A 29-year-old rural Pennsylvania resident faces accusations that he gunned down three individuals — including a family member — at a property in Susquehanna County before informing arresting troopers that he had destroyed those closest to him, WVIA Public Media reports.
Garrett Austin Johnson was taken into custody Monday evening in Great Bend Township following a violent confrontation that required officers to deploy an electroshock weapon and summon emergency medical personnel to administer a sedative. During the apprehension, he reportedly made the statement, "I killed everyone I love."
The deceased have been identified as Philip Johnson, aged 61, who was the accused's paternal uncle; Kevin Igo, 26; and Frank Talarico Jr., 31. The county coroner has scheduled postmortem examinations for Wednesday.
According to investigative documents, the episode unfolded after Johnson brought his automobile to a local garage for a mandatory safety inspection around midday. Staff declined to perform the examination because the automobile's registration paperwork did not correspond with its vehicle identification number. His parents described his behavior afterward as increasingly agitated and physically confrontational.
A resident telephoned emergency dispatch shortly after 6 p.m. to report a bare-chested man in athletic shorts standing in the roadway, yelling. Minutes later, the suspect's father contacted authorities to report multiple fatalities at his residence and stated that his son had been observed fleeing with a semiautomatic rifle resembling an AR-15. The father indicated that he had managed to disarm his son before police arrived.
When troopers reached the property on Baptist Hill Road, they observed Johnson sprinting toward their cruisers. He leaped onto the hood of one patrol car and physically resisted being taken into custody.
Inside the residence, investigators discovered two males deceased on the rear deck and a third on the grass nearby. All three had sustained gunshot injuries.
The suspect's mother told investigators that during the altercation, her son struck both her and her husband in the face. She also recovered the rifle from the roadway and concealed it in the cellar of the home as a precaution.
During an attempted interrogation in the early morning hours, Johnson declined to answer questions and requested legal representation. He was later brought before a local magistrate and ordered held without bond at the county correctional facility pending future court dates.
