After the second fatality, homeland security officials ordered a pause on vehicle checkpoint activities. The White House occupant responded Wednesday on social media by demanding agents continue such operations, describing them as crucial instruments against unlawful activity.
Trump's border policy advisor, Tom Homan, acknowledged the operational break to reporters while insisting the tactic worked well and would return.
These fatalities intensify criticism of enforcement methods under the current administration's large-scale removal push.
