US Airstrike Kills Senior IS Leader in Syria
A senior leader of the terrorist group Islamic State (IS) was killed in an airstrike carried out by the United States in northwestern Syria last week. The American military announced this through its central command, Centcom.
The strike is part of Washington's ongoing efforts to combat terrorists who pose a threat to the United States and American citizens abroad.
The US launched military operations in Syria more than a decade ago. At that time, American forces supported local Kurdish-dominated units in the fight against IS.
Earlier this year, both American and Syrian authorities stated that Damascus had regained control of the major bases that the terrorist group previously held. Despite this, American troops still conduct regular operations against remaining IS cells in the country.
