Three Young Adults Face Murder Charges After Fatal Stabbing in North Carolina
A deadly attack in a coastal North Carolina county has resulted in murder charges against three people, all in their late teens or early twenties.
On the morning of June 16, sheriff's deputies in New Hanover County found a 23-year-old male deceased from blade wounds in a parking lot along Carolina Beach Road. The location was outside Saltwater Marine in the 6100 block.
The victim was later identified as Adam Travon Smith. Investigators allege he was killed during a robbery attempt.
Those taken into custody include an 18-year-old female, a 19-year-old female, and a 20-year-old male. Court papers claim the group used a knife to menace Smith and attempted to take cash from him. The documents also assert the three worked together to plan the holdup.
All three defendants are charged with the most serious form of homicide under state law, plus conspiracy and armed robbery. They are being kept in the county jail with no release option.
Two of the accused — the women ages 18 and 19 — were brought before the court on June 17 and given public defenders.
Smith had finished high school in 2021. His former school district issued remarks mourning his passing and extending sympathy to loved ones.
Officials indicate the inquiry is still underway.
