Former Gang Leader Convicted in Tupac Shakur Murder

A Las Vegas jury has found Duane Davis guilty of organizing the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur. As Apollo.lv reported, jurors delivered the verdict against the former Los Angeles gang leader on Monday.

Shakur stood among the most influential hip-hop artists of the 1990s and remains a major figure in the genre. He was 25 years old when unknown gunmen shot him inside a car in Las Vegas on 7 September 1996. He died in hospital six days later. Worldwide, fans have bought millions of his records, including the hit singles “California Love” and “Changes.”

Prosecutors argued that Davis, previously a leader of the South Side Compton Crips, directed the murder after members of Shakur’s circle beat his nephew at a Las Vegas casino. Police arrested Davis in 2023 and charged him with murder using a deadly weapon. In court, he maintained his innocence.

The judge will announce his sentence on 13 October.
