A judge ordered a man held without bail after he allegedly attacked another man with a machete during a dispute over lumber in San Juan.

A judge in San Juan found probable cause to arrest a man accused of attacking another individual with a machete during a confrontation on May 10.

Judge Ángel D. Rivera Miranda of the San Juan Tribunal ruled that sufficient evidence exists to hold Daniel Y. Gómez in connection with the violent encounter, which took place on Ceuta Street.

According to police, Gómez became involved in a heated argument with a 44-year-old man over some pieces of wood. The dispute escalated when Gómez allegedly went to a vehicle, retrieved a machete, and struck the other man.

The victim suffered severe injuries from the assault. Police reported that he sustained a deep wound approximately 11 centimeters long on his neck, partial amputation of one ear, injuries to one hand and the index finger, and multiple lacerations across different parts of his body.

The San Juan Prosecutor's Office filed charges against Gómez including attempted first-degree murder and illegal use and possession of a bladed weapon.

The judge found probable cause on all counts and set bond at $900,000. Gómez was unable to post the amount and was subsequently booked into Institution 705 at the Bayamón Correctional Complex.
