Ten people were wounded when four gunmen opened fire outside a nightclub in Jamaica, Queens, late on New Year's night, according to qns.com. Police are still searching for all four suspects.

The shooting took place at approximately 11:20 p.m. on January 1 outside the Amazura event hall at 91-12 144th Place, within the 103rd Precinct. Around 90 guests were inside celebrating at a private party; roughly 15 people stood outside waiting to enter when the gunmen struck.

"Four males opened fire over 30 times in the direction of the group standing outside the event space, striking multiple victims," NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera said at an early-morning press conference. "The males fled on foot westbound on 91st Street towards 143 Place, where they entered a light-colored sedan with out-of-state plates."

Rivera confirmed that officers responding to multiple 911 calls found ten victims — six females and four males — all of whom were transported to area hospitals. All ten are expected to recover.

Gang-related motive under investigation

Investigators say the private event was held in honour of a local gang member who was killed in October and whose birthday fell on New Year's Day. Chief Rivera indicated that a gang-related motive is "one of the avenues that we're pursuing."

Multiple NYPD units converged on the scene, establishing a crime perimeter spanning several blocks. As of the press conference, all four suspects remained at large.

Public asked to come forward

Rivera appealed directly to residents for help identifying the shooters. "The public has been very instrumental in the recent weeks to help us capture dangerous individuals like these poor men; we ask the public, if you see something, say something. Call our Crime Stoppers tip line," he said.

The Amazura event hall sits several blocks from the Jamaica Long Island Rail Road station. In April 2024, two men were shot and wounded at the same location.
