Authorities in Arizona believe that two messages sent to a television station in Tucson were written by the kidnappers of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC television host Savannah Guthrie, according to Delo.

The first communication demanded a ransom of several million dollars, to be paid in cryptocurrency. A second message reportedly stated that the 84-year-old woman was dead — that the abductors had not intended to kill her, but that she died shortly after being taken.

Nancy Guthrie disappeared in February. Her case remains without an official conclusion. Investigators said the messages contained highly specific details about the victim's home, including an Apple watch with a white band lying on the bedroom floor and a broken light on her back porch.

The family responded multiple times with video pleas asking the kidnappers to release their mother. In one recording, Savannah Guthrie said: "We received your message and we understand." The note was addressed directly to the Today show host, who on air urged viewers to come forward. "Somebody knows something," she said.

Media outlets agreed not to publish the contents of the messages earlier so that their authenticity could be verified, CNN reported. Neither police nor the Guthrie family has commented on the latest disclosures.
