U.S. authorities have detained a Cuban citizen and are preparing to deport him from the United States on suspicion of subversive activities carried out on behalf of the communist government of the Caribbean island. The State Department announced the move on Wednesday, as reported by ERT News.

The arrested man is identified as Carlos Antonio Yoha Domínguez. According to spokesperson Tom Pigott of the U.S. Department of State, the suspect spent more than ten years operating as an agent offering services for subversive actions on behalf of Havana's main intelligence organization, which handles influence operations and espionage inside the United States.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio revoked the lawful residence permits of Yoha Domínguez, his wife, and his son. The three individuals are now in federal custody awaiting removal from the country.

The case comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Havana, which have worsened further since the start of the year. The U.S. government has imposed a de facto oil embargo on the island, announced new sanctions targeting Cuban businesses and officials, and launched criminal prosecution against former Venezuelan president Raúl Castro, the 95-year-old brother of revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, in a matter dating back to 1996.
