These activities have prompted the U.S. administration to treat the gang as a national security threat rather than a conventional law enforcement problem.

The designation as a terrorist group allows American military and intelligence agencies to deploy broader authorities in their efforts to dismantle the network. The current focus centers on locating and neutralizing the individual at the helm of the operation.

Tren de Aragua originated within the Venezuelan prison system and has since expanded its reach beyond South America, with reported presence in multiple countries throughout the Western Hemisphere.
