Federal authorities in the United States have brought charges against hundreds of individuals in what officials describe as the largest-ever crackdown on health insurance fraud. The investigation identified 455 suspects accused of unlawfully obtaining a total of $6.5 billion from public health programs.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced that the two-week enforcement action was the most comprehensive operation of its kind. The sweep covered 45 US states and territories.

FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that two suspects were added to the agency's most-wanted fraud list. Both have been fugitives since 2022. One of them, Khalid Ahmed Satary, is accused of stealing $547 million through genetic testing scams and is believed to be hiding in the United Arab Emirates. The other, Emylee Thai, allegedly took $95 million through similar genetic test fraud and is thought to be in Vietnam.

The fraud networks typically billed government programs for unnecessary medical procedures and fabricated services to siphon funds from Medicare and Medicaid.
