A 17-year-old male was arrested following a violent incident at New York's Times Square on Thursday afternoon, when gunshots rang out amid a large-scale fight. Although no one was hit by gunfire, a 26-year-old man sustained a stab wound to his neck and was transported to hospital for treatment.

According to police, the disturbance began around 15:40 at the intersection of 44th Street and Broadway. The juvenile suspect drew a handgun and fired multiple rounds. The sound of shots triggered a stampede among tourists and pedestrians, who scrambled to find shelter.

Video footage shows the suspect running south after the shooting, colliding with a police officer, then continuing to flee east along 42nd Street while officers pursued him.

Witness Jose Rios described the chaos: "I didn't see much, but I was right around the corner when I heard several shots. I checked my phone and saw a shooting had been reported near Times Square."

During the panic, people rushed into shops along Broadway. Employees at a souvenir store later recounted helping individuals who had fallen during the frantic escape.

Police investigators spent the evening gathering evidence and determining where the fired rounds landed. Meanwhile, officers located the 26-year-old stabbing victim nearby. He was taken to Morningside Hospital, where doctors expect him to make a full recovery.

Authorities confirmed that a teenager remains in custody, though it remains unclear whether he is the same individual captured on video firing the weapon. The investigation is ongoing, and officials are searching for additional suspects while working to establish what exactly triggered the violence that endangered numerous people at one of New York's busiest locations.

Police also noted that a second shooting was reported shortly after the first arrest, at the corner of 45th Street and Eighth Avenue.
