Roommate says Charlie Kirk murder suspect confessed to killing
The man sharing an apartment with the college student accused of murdering conservative activist Charlie Kirk told police the suspect admitted to the shooting and later broke down crying, according to BBC.
Lance Twiggs, who lived with Tyler Robinson and had previously been romantically involved with him, gave recorded testimony during a preliminary hearing. He told investigators that on September 12, 2025, Robinson was pacing around their residence. When Twiggs asked whether the claims from the previous evening were accurate, Robinson confirmed them.
Twiggs stated Robinson then began weeping and expressed that he wished he had not carried out the act. He continued moving around the apartment, which Twiggs interpreted as an attempt to occupy himself or avoid confronting what had happened. Twiggs departed shortly afterward because Robinson indicated he planned to surrender to authorities.
Robinson turned himself in later that same day. Twiggs spoke with investigators on September 12 and again on April 20, receiving immunity for his statements.
Prosecutors allege Robinson left a written message for Twiggs stating he saw an opportunity to eliminate Kirk and decided to take it. He also allegedly sent a text message explaining that he targeted Kirk because he had grown tired of his rhetoric.
Twiggs told authorities he had never heard Robinson mention Kirk prior to the shooting. Their political discussions typically centered on the then-president and current affairs.
Investigators say Robinson positioned himself on a rooftop near where Kirk was addressing a crowd at Utah Valley University and fired a single shot that struck the activist in the neck. Kirk died at a medical facility.
The preliminary hearing is being held to determine whether sufficient evidence exists to proceed to trial. Robinson has not yet entered a plea.
