A 39-year-old Georgetown woman is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon following her arrest for allegedly hitting a 10-year-old girl with her SUV while driving under the influence, fox56news.com reports.

Georgetown Police Department officers responded at approximately 7 a.m. on August 20 to the intersection of Bunker Hill Drive and Mt. Vernon Drive after reports of an injury crash involving a child. The girl was transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital with a laceration to the head and a concussion, according to court documents.

Witnesses at the scene told investigators the impact was severe enough to knock the child's shoes off, and that she was thrown from the front of the vehicle before landing near the rear tires of the school bus. The vehicle had allegedly failed to stop at a school bus stop sign.

Officers launched a search for the suspect vehicle and located several surveillance videos showing an SUV travelling at "an extremely fast pace" along Mt. Vernon Street, according to a Georgetown police report. Dispatchers later alerted officers to a "possibly suicidal female" driving near Norchester Drive in a vehicle matching the description.

Police located the SUV on Dorchester Drive and found Ashley Parsons at her residence. She allegedly admitted to investigators that she had been "driving around while intoxicated." Parsons told officers she was near the Georgetown intersection at the time the child was struck but said she could not remember what occurred there.

Court documents note a citation indicating the vehicle was owned by Parsons' family, whose relatives confirmed to law enforcement that front-end damage observed by officers was new.

During subsequent questioning at the Georgetown Police Department, Parsons allegedly told authorities she remembered seeing the school bus stopped but did not recall seeing a stop sign or striking a child.

Parsons was arrested and charged with first-offense operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol with aggravated circumstances, first-degree assault, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident with failure to render aid or assistance.

She appeared in court on August 25 for her arraignment and entered a plea of not guilty.

The crash investigation remains ongoing.
