Suspect held after shots fired at Rihanna's Beverly Hills home
A 35-year-old woman has been taken into custody on suspicion of attempted murder after the Beverly Hills mansion of pop star Rihanna was struck by gunfire on Sunday afternoon, Los Angeles police say.
The suspect, identified as Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, is being held on bail set at $10.2 million (£7.6 million). Officers responded to reports of shots fired at the property at 13:15 local time (21:15 GMT).
According to bbc.com, the attacker allegedly fired an AR-15-style weapon from a moving vehicle towards the singer's residence, citing a report by the Los Angeles Times. A law enforcement source told the newspaper that Rihanna was inside the mansion at the time, though no injuries were reported. A motive has not been established.
A police official told CBS, the BBC's US partner, that assault rifle casings were recovered at the scene. Ortiz's white Tesla was located approximately eight miles (12km) from the property at the Sherman Oaks Galleria shopping centre, where she was taken into custody. A Fox News affiliate in Tampa reported that the suspect is from Orlando, Florida.
Rihanna, 37, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, was born in Barbados and rose to fame in the early 2000s with songs including Pon de Replay and Umbrella. The nine-time Grammy winner recently marked 20 years since the release of her debut album.
The singer shares two sons, Riot and RZA, with partner A$AP Rocky, and in September gave birth to a third child, a girl named Rocki. The pregnancy had been announced at the Met Gala earlier in the year.
The couple drew significant media attention in February, when A$AP Rocky was acquitted of charges related to firing a weapon at a former friend — a trial Rihanna attended with their two sons.
Forbes has estimated Rihanna's net worth at over one billion dollars, built in part through her Fenty Beauty makeup line and a lingerie company. Her representatives had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication.
