19-year-old woman kidnapped and robbed by "friends" in Akron, Ohio; one arrested

A 19-year-old Ohio woman was lured to a home in Akron, held captive, beaten, stripped and robbed. One suspect has been arrested; police are still searching for others.

A 19-year-old woman was lured to a home on Beardsley Street in Akron, Ohio, shortly after midnight on December 27, where three people held her captive, beat her, stripped her of her clothing, and robbed her, according to kalb.com.

Akron Police Captain Michael Miller told WOIO that the victim had considered the people involved to be her friends. Once inside the home, she was held in the basement, physically attacked, and robbed in an incident that was recorded on video.

"It is very humiliating, very traumatizing, we imagine, for this young woman, this victim. Very disappointing, too, that the people involved would commit this crime," Miller said.

The woman eventually managed to escape, fleeing the home without any clothing. She was spotted walking naked on East South Street by a passing motorist, who pulled over and called 911.

"Yeah, I just picked a young lady up. She was walking down the street naked. She said somebody jumped her and robbed her. I've got her in the car here... She is butt naked. She has nothing on," the Good Samaritan told the 911 dispatcher.

Miller said the victim sustained facial and head trauma during the attack. "To be subjected to walk any distance in that physical condition, let alone disrobed, not dressed, essentially nude or near nude, is humiliating," he said. He also praised the community member who intervened: "Thank God we have a community out there and people that care enough to step in and give some aid and help."

Akron police arrested 19-year-old Kendill Worthy in connection with the attack. She is being held at the Summit County Jail on a bond of $100,000 and appeared in court Monday for her arraignment. Her case has been bound over to the Summit County Grand Jury.

Detectives say the investigation is ongoing and that additional suspects remain at large. Miller indicated the number of people involved may exceed three.

"This may not even, in fact, be limited to just three people that participated in the assault. There may have been some other people with knowledge or perspective that the detectives may want to talk to," Miller said. "We want to hold, in the end, any and everyone responsible."
