Kentucky Man Charged With Murder After Truck Ploughs Into Bus Stop, Killing One Woman

A Kentucky man drove a Chevy Silverado into a group of bus stop pedestrians, killing one woman and injuring four others. He admitted to drinking tequila but denied it caused the crash.

A 45-year-old Kentucky man has been charged with murder after driving a pickup truck through a red light and into a group of people waiting at a bus stop Monday, killing a 43-year-old woman and injuring four others, Law & Crime reports.

Kevin Moore is accused of striking multiple pedestrians at the intersection of Dixie Highway and Rockford Lane in Shively, a suburb just south of Louisville. The victim, Danielle Cordes, died at the scene. Two of the four other people injured were reported to be in life-threatening condition.

"We determined that the vehicle had appeared to have run a red light, struck another vehicle, and afterwards continued on and struck some people standing at a bus stop," Shively Police Sgt. Jordan Brown told local ABC affiliate WHAS.

Moore faces a range of charges in addition to murder, including first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, fourth-degree assault, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, disregarding a traffic light, and first-degree criminal mischief. Jefferson County Jail records reviewed by Law & Crime show he was booked into custody on Tuesday.

At the scene, Moore acknowledged he had been driving the black Chevy Silverado but told officers "the accident was not his fault even though he was drunk due to him consuming alcoholic beverages," according to his arrest citation. He said he had consumed tequila approximately one hour before the crash.

Moore declined to take a field sobriety test, stating according to the citation that "he knows that he is drunk" and asking officers to take him to jail instead. Responding officers noted that he had the odour of alcohol on his breath and appeared unsteady on his feet.

He was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
