American armed forces carried out a deadly assault on a boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean this week, resulting in the deaths of two men. The vessel was targeted as part of an ongoing anti-narcotics military campaign.

The US Southern Command (Southcom) announced on social media that the strike hit a craft traveling along established drug smuggling routes. "Two narcoterrorists were killed in the operation," the military statement read. Intelligence had verified that the boat was participating in drug transport activities in the region. No American service members were injured during the engagement.

This marked the second fatal attack on suspected trafficking vessels within the same week. On Tuesday, US forces struck another boat in the eastern Pacific, killing one person. Two of the three crew members on that vessel survived.

The operations fall under "Operation Southern Spear," an initiative launched by President Donald Trump in September. The campaign targets alleged drug producers and smugglers. According to available figures, at least 195 people have died in this operation so far.

The US administration has not provided solid evidence that the targeted vessels were involved in drug trafficking. Human rights organizations have condemned the strikes as extrajudicial killings, arguing that they appear to target civilians who do not pose a direct threat to the United States.
