Carlos James, a lawyer and former cabinet member, is suing the government on behalf of Kenton Harris, a man with psychiatric disabilities who was allegedly assaulted by officers while restrained in police custody.

Carlos James, who previously served in government and now practises law, has served formal notice on the Attorney General signalling his plan to bring proceedings against the State.

James represents Kenton Harris, a Lodge Village resident with longstanding psychiatric difficulties that leave him unable to handle his own legal matters. Harris's mother, Anesta Harris-Robinson, is acting as his litigation friend in the matter.

During a media briefing on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, James described his client as a vulnerable individual facing mental-health challenges. He said the proposed lawsuit concerns three distinct episodes in which RSVGPF officers allegedly harmed Harris while he was restrained and under their supervision.

The case gained widespread notice on May 21, 2026, when footage circulated online showing officers striking Harris near Coreas.
