A pair of male pupils, 16 and 17 years old, were taken into police custody at a secondary school on Tortola after staff uncovered suspected marijuana and related equipment.
According to BVI News, officers were called to the campus last week after a fellow student reported seeing the duo with drugs inside a restroom. A teacher checked the bathroom and found the two boys there, along with the substances and other items.
A subsequent inspection of their personal effects turned up a grinder, tobacco, rolling papers, and additional drug-related objects. Law enforcement confiscated everything for further examination.
When confronted alongside their parents and school administrators, both adolescents denied knowing anything about the cannabis. It is not yet known whether formal charges were filed or whether warnings and alternative disciplinary steps will be taken.
The episode adds to mounting worries about youth drug use across the Virgin Islands. Over the past several months, multiple incidents have surfaced involving pupils caught with suspected marijuana and paraphernalia at secondary schools in the territory.
These developments have fuelled fresh appeals for heightened parental supervision, substance-awareness instruction, and expanded outreach programmes directed at adolescents.
