Law enforcement in the U.S. Virgin Islands announced that a man apprehended in Florida has been transported back to St. Croix to stand trial on weapons-related accusations.

The suspect, aged 29, was handed over to local authorities on July 3, 2026. He had been taken into custody in the Sunshine State around mid-June. The allegations against him involve carrying a gun without proper authorization and holding ammunition.

The origin of the matter traces back to late April 2026, when residents reported hearing gun discharges in the Castle Burke community. When patrol units responded, they encountered a wounded male who was subsequently rushed to receive medical care. During his hospital stay, staff and officers located a weapon on him.

Further inquiries established that he did not hold any permit allowing him to own or carry such an item. Judicial officials consequently authorized a warrant for his detention, which was circulated nationally after he departed the territory.

Investigators from the local Criminal Investigation Bureau retrieved him and escorted him to St. Croix. After booking procedures, he remained in custody when he could not secure release through a $50,000 bond. He was confined at the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility ahead of a scheduled initial hearing on July 6, 2026.
