Registered Sex Offender Re-Arrested on St. Croix for Failing to Update Registry

Sex Offender Taken Into Custody Again in Christiansted

Daniel Cove, 43, was arrested Wednesday in downtown Christiansted on St. Croix after failing — once again — to keep his sex offender registration current, stthomassource.com reports, citing a U.S. Marshals Service press release.

Cove was wanted on an outstanding Virgin Islands warrant for failure to update his sex offender registration and failure to verify his address. Local and federal law enforcement located him in Christiansted and took him into custody without incident.

The arrest followed a request made on Aug. 24 by the Virgin Islands Justice Department to the Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force, District of the Virgin Islands, for assistance in locating and apprehending Cove.

On June 23, 2002, Cove was convicted of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14 in Massachusetts and sentenced to prison. He was released in 2013 and is required under V.I. Justice Department rules to register every six months for a period of 25 years.

Since his 2013 release, Cove has been re-arrested multiple times for failing to update his sex offender registration, according to the press release.

Following his arrest Wednesday, Cove was transferred to the Virgin Islands Police Department and booked at the John A. Bell Correctional Facility. V.I. Superior Court records show he faces charges of failure to keep sex offender registration current and failure to verify address or keep sex offender registration current.

The U.S. Marshals Service maintains interagency partnerships with federal, state, tribal, and local law enforcement agencies and leads fugitive task forces responsible for arresting tens of thousands of fugitives annually.
