Governor Albert Bryan Jr. condemned arrests tied to an alleged Medicaid fraud scheme involving Virgin Islands Department of Human Services staff and medical community members.

Governor Albert Bryan Jr. issued a formal statement condemning arrests connected to an alleged Medicaid fraud scheme, vi.gov reported, involving individuals linked to the Virgin Islands Department of Human Services, members of the medical community, and program recipients.

"The arrests announced today involving an alleged Medicaid fraud scheme, including individuals connected to the Virgin Islands Department of Human Services and members of the medical community, are deeply troubling," Bryan said. "Medicaid exists to serve our most vulnerable residents. Any effort to exploit it is an attack on the public trust and a theft from the people of the Virgin Islands."

Bryan stated he has zero tolerance for corruption or self-dealing, and for anyone using public office or public programs for private gain. He referenced his 2026 State of the Territory Address, in which he committed to "stamping out corruption, wherever it appears," and called on the public to report suspected wrongdoing.

The governor also commended Department of Human Services Commissioner Averil George for her cooperation with investigators and her assistance to the Department of Justice's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.

Bryan said his administration would continue to support efforts to uncover wrongdoing, recover misused funds, and hold accountable anyone who violates the public trust.
