Two men charged in break-in and theft of Hamilton city fleet vehicles

One suspect was arrested at an airport while attempting to leave the country; a second man remains at large. Both face charges including break and enter and vehicle theft.

Hamilton municipal facility broken into, city vehicles stolen

Two men have been charged after allegedly breaking into a City of Hamilton facility and stealing fleet vehicle keys, according to cp24.com.

Shortly after midnight on July 22, two suspects forced their way into a city facility in central Hamilton, took several sets of keys belonging to municipal fleet vehicles, and drove off in one of the stolen city vehicles, Hamilton police say.

Hours later, officers in another jurisdiction spotted one of the stolen vehicles and carried out a traffic stop. The vehicle was seized for stunt driving; at that point it had not yet been flagged as stolen. Investigators subsequently linked it to the break-in, and a second stolen city vehicle was recovered during a separate investigation.

Warrants were issued for both suspects after they were identified. Mark McCombe was arrested while attempting to board a flight out of the country, police say. The second suspect, Brandon Poole, 35, of no fixed address, remains wanted. Police say Poole is known to frequent Hamilton, Niagara and Burlington.

Both men face charges of break and enter, commit theft, disguise with intent, and theft of a motor vehicle. None of the charges have been proven in court.

Police did not release images of either suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact Hamilton Police Service or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
