Google News UAE — Courts & Fraud reports that President Sheikh Mohamed has pardoned Abdul Rahman Yusuf Al Qaradawi, who received a 10-year prison sentence and a Dh200,000 ($54,450) fine following his conviction.
Al Qaradawi was found guilty by the Cyber Crimes Department of the Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal on 27 August. State media agency Wam confirmed on Friday that the required procedures to implement the presidential pardon are being carried out.
A presidential pardon in the UAE constitutes an official act of clemency that forgives or reduces a convicted person's punishment. It does not indicate innocence; its effect is solely to lessen or cancel the sentence imposed.
