Drugs concealed among beef in refrigerated truck on SP-310

The Highway Military Police seized 458 kilograms of drugs concealed in a refrigerated truck transporting beef on the Washington Luís Highway (SP-310), in São José do Rio Preto, on Thursday afternoon (4). According to reporting by g1.globo.com, the vehicle's driver was arrested in flagrante delicto for drug trafficking and taken to the Federal Police Station.

The vehicle was travelling from Boca do Acre, in Amazonas, bound for Campo Limpo Paulista, in the interior of São Paulo, transporting approximately 29 tonnes of chilled beef.

During a roadside inspection on the SP-310, officers noticed irregularities in the seals of the cargo compartment. The suspicion was reinforced with the assistance of a police sniffer dog from the Military Police kennel, which indicated the presence of narcotics inside the truck.

After opening the cargo, agents located the narcotics distributed among the pieces of meat. Approximately 350 kilograms of skunk — a more potent version of cannabis — 94 kilograms of cocaine paste, six kilograms of cocaine and nine kilograms of cannabis seeds were seized.

In addition to the drugs, police also seized the truck, the semi-trailer, mobile telephone devices and the beef cargo itself that was used to conceal the narcotics.

The driver remained in custody pending the outcome of judicial proceedings after being charged at the Federal Police Station.
