Man wanted for double homicide in Picos (PI) arrested in Tietê, São Paulo

Suspect in double murder in Piauí arrested in São Paulo interior town
A man with an arrest warrant issued by the Piauí courts was detained on Thursday afternoon (3) in Tietê, in the interior of São Paulo, according to reporting by g1.globo.com. Matheus Silva Santana, known as "Matheus Lacoste", is identified as one of those responsible for a double homicide committed in October 2023 in the city of Picos (PI).
Teams from the Itu Tactical Force located the suspect in a property on Rua Maurílio Lazarim. After confirming the existence of a judicial order against him, military police officers approached and made the arrest.
The crime in Conduru neighbourhood
The double homicide occurred on the evening of 27 October 2023, in the Conduru neighbourhood in Picos. The victims were Mardilla Fernanda Bezerra Nonato and Anselmo Pimentel Barbosa. According to Piauí authorities, armed men invaded the residence where the couple was located and fired multiple shots at both of them.
Mardilla was struck in different parts of her body, including the head and thorax, and died at the scene. Anselmo was assisted by Samu, but did not survive his injuries. The shooters also shot at a dog that was in the house; the animal also did not survive. After the crime, the suspects fled in a vehicle with no number plates.
Drug trafficking and criminal faction
One line of investigation pursued by authorities indicated that the double homicide could be related to conflicts involving drug trafficking in the region. The case began to be handled by the specialised unit combating criminal factions, homicides and drug trafficking in Picos.
As investigations progressed, those involved were identified and the courts issued the appropriate judicial measures. Matheus Silva Santana began to face proceedings linked to the crime. Furthermore, the Special Task Force for Combating Organised Crime of the Piauí Public Ministry (Gaeco/MPPI) identifies the suspect as a member of a criminal faction.
Procedures following arrest
Following the arrest in Tietê, police procedural steps were carried out. Matheus remained in custody. The case remains under investigation by the Piauí Civil Police.
