Former priest Cristian Pomohaci held after failed appeal against preventive arrest

Judges at the Court of Appeal in Tîrgu Mureș have ruled to reject the appeal filed by Cristian Pomohaci, who sought to overturn the measure depriving him of liberty. The sentence published on Wednesday, 10 June, is final and enforceable, meaning that the individual will continue to remain in prison.

The judge for rights and liberties at Mureș Tribunal had issued an arrest warrant valid for thirty days at the beginning of June. The decision was appealed by the defendant, but the higher court found it well founded and ordered it to be upheld. The former priest must also pay two hundred lei in court costs.

The investigation is coordinated by the territorial structure of DIICOT in Tîrgu Mureș, with the assistance of BCCO officers. According to official statements from Mureș County Police Inspectorate, during the period 2024–2026, the suspect is alleged to have purchased, stored and distributed doses of a highly dangerous psychoactive substance, in crystalline form, to various consumers.

During a search at the man's residence, investigators seized drugs of the 3-CMC type – a synthetic substance in the same category as methamphetamine – and a sum equivalent to nearly two million euros, in several currencies.

In addition to narcotics-related offences, the man is also the subject of a separate criminal case involving sexual acts with a minor and rape. A second appeal filed by Pomohaci, relating to deprivation of liberty in this case, is to be heard with a one-day delay by the same court.
