Danish and Peruvian Citizens Held in Preventive Custody for Drug Trafficking at "Retreat" in Hunedoara
Two foreign citizens remain in preventive custody after the Alba Iulia Court of Appeal rejected their appeals. They are accused of bringing high-risk drugs for rituals at a guesthouse in Boșorod.

Google News RO — Crime (ro) reports that a Danish citizen and a Peruvian citizen remain in preventive custody after the Alba Iulia Court of Appeal rejected their appeals on Wednesday against the decision of Hunedoara Tribunal. The ruling is final.
The two are being investigated in a drug trafficking case involving high-risk substances. According to investigators, they brought prohibited substances into Romania intended for use in so-called spiritual ceremonies, organised together with a Romanian woman at a guesthouse in Boșorod.
The event, promoted on social media under the name "Amazon Weekend", was presented as an experience designed to help participants "reconnect with themselves". Participants were selected following interviews conducted that summer, with access permitted only on the basis of recommendation. The participation fee ranged between 590 and 650 euros, a sum that included accommodation, meals and access to ceremonies. Persons presenting themselves as shamans from Peru were set to take part in the "retreat".
According to DIICOT, on 27 August the two foreign citizens brought the drugs into the country, which were to be used during the rituals.
"Investigations revealed that during the 'rituals', high-risk drugs were to be distributed and consumed, made available by 'shamans', in the form of Ayahuasca, which contains DMT — a high-risk drug — and 'San Pedro' — the popular name for a cactus of the species Echinopsis pachanoi, which contains mescaline, a psychedelic substance representing a high-risk drug", prosecutors stated.
On Friday, police officers and prosecutors specialising in combating drug trafficking carried out searches at the guesthouse where the event was to take place. Investigators discovered over 6.6 litres of liquid substance containing mescaline, containers with hallucinogenic mushrooms containing psilocin and psilocybin, as well as other containers with liquid and plant substances undergoing expert examination.
Precision scales were also found, devices which investigators claim were intended for consumption via snorting and inhalation, as well as other items of evidence.
"At the moment investigators entered the guesthouse, 'teas' containing high-risk drugs were already prepared for consumption in its kitchen. Moreover, in the room designated for rituals involving the consumption of substances — equipped for this purpose — 11 mattresses were found, containers for vomiting after consumption of teas containing high-risk drugs, candles and various decorative items", prosecutors specified.
On Sunday, Hunedoara Tribunal ordered 30 days of preventive custody for the Danish and Peruvian citizens. In the case of the Romanian woman involved in organising the event, the court applied a judicial supervision measure.
The appeals lodged by the two foreign citizens were rejected on Wednesday by the Alba Iulia Court of Appeal, with the decision now final.
