Third arrest in AK-47 rifle probe: magazine found in wash bay attendant's bedroom

Third man arrested as AK-47 rifle investigation widens across Guyana

A 21-year-old wash bay attendant from Farm, East Bank Demerara, was arrested on Friday as part of an ongoing firearm investigation, newsroom.gy reports. Police found one extended magazine, suspected to be for a 9mm firearm, in the man's bedroom during the search.

According to Police Headquarters, officers visited the man's residence after two other suspects had already been taken into custody. The discovery of the magazine led directly to his arrest.

Earlier this week, Antonio Alonzo Lawrie, known as "Lanzo," and Gregory Anthony Persaud, known as "Satan," turned themselves in at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters on Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, accompanied by their attorneys.

The Guyana Police Force had issued wanted bulletins on May 28 for Lawrie, Persaud, and a third man, Ryan Singh. The bulletins followed the seizure of ten AK-47 rifles at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice, and were connected to the arrest and subsequent charge of taxi driver Stephen Rajah of Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara.

Rajah appeared before the New Amsterdam Magistrate's Court on a charge of possession of firearms. He was not required to plead to the indictable offence and was remanded to prison after bail was refused. The matter was adjourned to June 15, 2026.

Police said Rajah was arrested on May 22 after officers conducting a stop-and-search exercise along the Berbice River Bridge Access Road intercepted a black Toyota Fielder Wagon bearing registration number HC 9018. Investigators subsequently uncovered the ten AK-47 rifles, triggering a wider probe and the issuance of the wanted bulletins for the three men.
