Jamal Cumberbatch, 28, known as "Brains," of Half Mile, Wismar, Linden, was remanded to Lusignan Prison on Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of former associate Keron McDonald, guyanachronicle.com reports.

Cumberbatch appeared before Magistrate Tanisha Saigon at the Linden Magistrates' Court, which adjourned the matter to September 23.

McDonald, an employee of Bosai Minerals Group Guyana, was shot during an altercation in the Prosville/Prasville area of Wismar. According to relatives, the two men had previously been close associates whose relationship broke down over an alleged dispute involving the mother of McDonald's two children. McDonald had reportedly accused Cumberbatch of being involved in a relationship with the woman.

Family members said tensions escalated on Wednesday morning following a social media post connected to Cumberbatch's son. The confrontation began at McDonald's home before the two men left the area separately. They allegedly encountered each other again, at which point the argument turned physical.

Cumberbatch allegedly returned to his vehicle, retrieved a firearm, and fired at McDonald, striking him in the chest. McDonald collapsed and was transported to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead.

Police subsequently arrested Cumberbatch. Investigators recovered a spent 9mm shell at the scene; the firearm itself had not yet been located at the time of the initial investigation.

McDonald's death has left his family grieving the loss of a young father, while the circumstances of the shooting remain before the court.
