Linden Man Held Over Fatal Shooting Linked to Personal Dispute

Jamal Cumberbatch, 28, also known as "Brains," of Half Mile, Wismar, Linden, was on Monday remanded to Lusignan Prison over the fatal shooting of Keron McDonald, his former associate, newsroom.gy reports.

Cumberbatch appeared before Magistrate Tanisha Saigon at the Linden Magistrates' Court. The case was adjourned to September 23.

McDonald, an employee of Bosai Minerals Group Guyana, was shot during an altercation in the Prosville/Prasville area of Wismar, Linden, last week.

The two men had previously been close, but their relationship broke down over an alleged dispute involving the mother of McDonald's two children. According to relatives, tensions mounted after McDonald accused Cumberbatch of being romantically involved with the woman. The situation reportedly worsened on Wednesday morning following a social media post connected to Cumberbatch's son.

The confrontation began at McDonald's home and continued after both men left the area separately. They later encountered each other again, at which point the argument allegedly turned physical.

Cumberbatch then allegedly returned to his vehicle, retrieved a firearm and fired at McDonald, striking him in the chest. McDonald collapsed and was subsequently transported to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead.

Police arrested Cumberbatch shortly afterward. Investigators recovered a spent 9mm shell casing at the scene; the firearm itself had not yet been recovered at the time of the initial investigation.

McDonald's family is mourning the loss of a young father. The circumstances surrounding his death remain before the court.
