During an afternoon anti-narcotics exercise in Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice, law enforcement recovered a substantial quantity of suspected cannabis on Tuesday.

The Guyana Police Force reported that ranks were patrolling the area around 3:30 pm when they spotted two men inside a property whose behavior raised suspicion. Once the men noticed the officers approaching, they reportedly sprinted away on foot and evaded capture.

Acting on intelligence gathered at the location, the team entered a structure within the same property. Inside, they located a refuse bag holding four sizable bundles encased in clear wrapping. Another bag contained plant material — leaves, seeds and stems — believed to be marijuana.

A green travel case was also found, holding two more sizable bundles wrapped in clear material and packed with similar plant matter.

All substances were taken to the Central Police Station and weighed. The total came to 8.350 kilograms, after which the items were secured as evidence.

As of this report, no suspects have been taken into custody, and the inquiry continues.
