Detectives have apprehended the individual they believe orchestrated an explosive attack at a service station along the East Bank of Essequibo, an incident that resulted in the death of a six-year-old and injuries to four additional persons.

The suspect was seized Tuesday at a location known as Vergenoegen sideline dam, following an intelligence-led operation supervised by a senior officer holding the rank of superintendent. His capture occurred shortly after the police department publicized a cash incentive of five million Guyanese dollars for clues leading to his whereabouts.

Investigators had already identified apparel linked to the accused from the night of the offense. Witnesses indicated the man approached the petrol outlet carrying an oversized plastic sack and tried to dispose of it in a refuse container beside a fuel dispenser. When the pump worker blocked this effort, he repositioned the parcel adjacent to the cooking-gas supply section, beside an unoccupied automobile. The device then erupted.

The detained individual is currently being questioned as enquiries proceed.
