A local government employee received a court-imposed financial penalty on Friday for failing to cooperate with a traffic safety check. The worker, identified as Aryan Doodnauth, holds a position at the Anna Regina Town Council, according to Kaieteur News.
The events in question took place on June 21 along a public thoroughfare on the Essequibo Coast in Region Two. Officers carrying out a standard roadside operation halted the individual, who subsequently would not provide a breath sample for analysis.
At the Anna Regina Magistrates' Court, Doodnauth acknowledged responsibility before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir. The court directed him to pay $25,000, warning that failure to do so would result in incarceration for a quarter of a year.
The matter underscores continued efforts by authorities to enforce drink-driving regulations through mobile screening checkpoints in coastal communities.
