Police have detained five people following a violent home invasion in Good Hope where masked intruders stormed a family's house, assaulted occupants and stole valuables.

Law enforcement officers have detained five people in connection with a violent residential break-in that occurred at Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, in the early hours of Monday.

The Guyana Police Force announced on Thursday that the matter is still under active investigation. The targeted household was occupied by a 49-year-old businessman, his spouse and their two daughters when the incident unfolded.

Authorities stated that around seven intruders wearing masks descended on the property. The men carried firearms, blades and cutlasses. They pounded on the front entrance before forcing their way in, with sounds resembling gunfire heard during the breach.

One of the daughters sustained injuries during the ordeal. The intruders made away with jewellery, two cellular devices, money and identity papers. The exact worth of the loot has yet to be calculated.

The head of the household managed to flee and alert the authorities. Officers arrived promptly and conveyed the affected family members to Enmore Regional Hospital for assessment.

On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, investigators searched a property at Phase Two, Good Hope, and discovered a pair of .32 calibre handguns hidden within a blue biscuit container. These firearms were catalogued as evidence.

The first two detainees were a 21-year-old manual worker and a 33-year-old cab driver, both from the Good Hope Squatting Area. Three additional individuals were later rounded up, raising the total number held to five.
