Officers in Guyana have placed two individuals under arrest following the violent death of a miner at his worksite. The victim, John José Marciano, was 55 years old.

According to The St Kitts Nevis Observer, Marciano's body was found at his camp near 14 Miles Issano during the early hours of Saturday. He had sustained numerous severe cuts consistent with a bladed weapon.

The motive behind the killing has not been established. Law enforcement officials stated the man was found collapsed inside the camp with the injuries spread across his body.

A blade believed to have been used in the homicide was located close to where the victim lay. The pair now in custody include a camp cook and a fellow miner.

Detectives are pursuing inquiries to piece together what transpired and why the attack occurred.
