A 25-year-old worker from Annadale was ordered kept in prison after facing a magistrate in Sparendaam on charges of robbery with a weapon and property destruction.

A young manual worker from the East Coast was ordered to remain behind bars following a court appearance this week.

Twenty-five-year-old Kumar Persaud, who lives in Annadale New Scheme, stood before Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Sparendaam Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. Law enforcement officers had picked him up on June 3 in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred on May 27 along Mon Repos Market Road. A 30-year-old man from the same area was the victim.

In the courtroom, Persaud rejected the allegation of robbing someone while armed. Regarding the accusation that he intentionally destroyed property, he admitted wrongdoing but sought to provide context for his actions.

The presiding judicial officer declined to grant release on either accusation. The proceedings were postponed until July 20, 2026.
