Murder charge against Linden man with schizophrenia; remanded to prison

Johnathan De Souza, a 38-year-old unemployed man of Lovers Lane, South Amelia's Ward, Linden, has been charged with murder under Common Law, newsroom.gy reports. He appeared before Magistrate Rushell Liverpool at the Linden Magistrate's Court on Thursday, where the charge was read to him. De Souza was not required to enter a plea and was remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned to July 10, 2026.

De Souza was arrested on Sunday, May 31, 2026, in connection with the death of Wayne Tevin Wilson of Scheme Hill, Wismar, Linden.

Reports indicate that De Souza was found defecating in Wilson's yard. Wilson allegedly armed himself with a wooden object and began striking De Souza about the body. De Souza then allegedly stabbed Wilson multiple times.

According to a police statement, Wilson sustained stab wounds to the upper left chest, left upper arm, and the left side of his head. The incident took place at approximately 18:10 hrs.

De Souza's mother told reporters that her son is a diagnosed schizophrenic who suffers from several other mental illnesses and is a patient at the Linden Hospital Psychiatric Department. She said she performs odd jobs in the neighbourhood to support him and struggles to understand what happened. She expressed hope that her son receives appropriate medical care while on remand.
